
MOUNT CARMEL BASEBALL COACHING STAFF
HEAD VARSITY COACH - BRIAN HURRY Brian Hurry begins his 11th season at Mount Carmel and his 9th as Varsity Head Coach. Before coming to Mount Carmel, Coach Hurry played baseball at the College of St. Francis and had the privilege to play for baseball's all-time winningest coach, Gordie Gillespie. At St. Francis, he was a reserve middle infielder on the 1993 NAIA National Championship team. During his final season, Hurry was named Team Captain for the Saints' 1996 Regional-Finalist ballclub. Coach Hurry's emphasis on preparation, discipline, and respect for the game has resulted in six Regional-Championships, four Sectional-Championships, the school's first "Elite Eight" appearance in 2003, and a State Runner-Up finish in 2005. In eight seasons as Head Coach, his teams have averaged 30 wins per season and have posted an overall record of 236 - 81. In that span, 30 players have gone on to compete at the collegiate level, including 12 Division I players. In addition, four MC players have been selected in the Major League Baseball Amatuer Draft. Coach Hurry completed his Master's Degree in Administration in 2004 and currently serves as an Assistant Athletic Director at Mount Carmel High School. The Brian Hurry File - Since 2000... VARSITY PITCHING COACH - JOHN DIFILIPPO Coach DiFillippo begins his 9th season as Varsity Pitching Coach for the Caravan. In the span, 17 of his pitchers have moved on to pitch at the college level, including two top 10 round draft picks in the Major League Baseball Amatuer Draft, three overall. In 2005 Cesar Carrillo('02) was taken by the San Diego Padres in the first round (18th overall) and in 2006 Dan O'Brien was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the eighth round. Right-hander Lenell McGee was also selected in 2006, by the Houston Astros. The 2007 class sent three more pitchers to the Division I level with Tom Zelasko attending Northern Illinois University, Tony Manville attending University of Iowa, and Nick Tritschler at Central Michigan. The class of 2008 will be sending at least one more into D I baseball. Senior Jonah Klees will attend Harvard next year. Coach DiFllippo played at the University of Illinois at Chicago, before signing with the Cinncinnati Reds.
