Below you will find suggestions for web sites, databases and library print materials to help you in your research and to get topic ideas.

Suggestions and Tips for Locating Library Print Resources:

*Browse section 977.31 in the MC Library for books on Chicago.
*Use our online card catalog. Not all books about Chicago will be in the 977.31 section.
*In the Reference section look through The Encyclopedia of Chicago for information and topic ideas.
*
Find a book by using the Chicago Public Library or South Suburban Library online catalog. Remember that if your local library does not have the book you need they can get it for you. All you have to do is ask.
*For African-American history research visit the Woodson Library at 95th and Halsted.
*For Irish history research visit the Beverly Branch library at 95th and Hamilton.

Biography Resource Center and History Resource Center
There are a number of different databases on this page, many of which will be useful for this project. Note: this is only available until 11-30-07.

Chicago Tribune Historical Archives, The Chicago Defender Historical Archive, American National Biography. Biography Resource Center, America: History & Life, Business & Company Resource Center. and History Database Search.

Follow this path: CPL Library Home Page -> "Find It" -> Advanced Search
-> check the box of the datase(s) you want to search, eg. American National Biography-> Enter your search term or go directly to the database. Your CPL library card number and zip code will serve as a user name and password.

Encyclopedia Britannica
Better and more reliable source than Wikipedia. (see Mrs. Pienton for user name and password)
