Straight A Students Honored at Mount Carmel
Chicago – On Wednesday, November 21 Mount Carmel High School honored 41 students from all four grades who earned a straight A average in the first trimester of the 2007 – 2008 school year.
1990 Mount Carmel graduate Enrico Mowatt was the keynote speaker. A 1994 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Mowatt holds a Bachelors degree in Communications and Marketing. Currently he is a professional in the advertising and marketing industry with Gentleman’s Quarterly.
In a presentation that was captivating and educational for the students, Mowatt focused on the importance of their hard work, and how continuing down such a strong path will benefit the students in the future.
“I am privileged to be here today. It is important that you all know that your diligence and hard work will help you tremendously in the future. If you continue to achieve such great success in your academic life, opportunities will open for you, and the access you have as a result of the hard work will be endless.”
“These are things that stand out on a resume for application to colleges and universities, as well as after college in the work force.”
In the question and answer session, he helped the students understand the importance of this day stating, “I wish I had someone like me when I was your age, telling me how great of an accomplishment I made, and how important it was that I stayed focused on such success in the future.”
In closing he stated that the two great lessons he learned at Mount Carmel were diligence and discipline. In connection with his own life as an alumnus and successful businessman, he encouraged the young men to expand their horizons and grow in perspective. He reinforced to the students that doing this would help them build character.
The ceremony began with a prayer by President and Principal Fr. Carl J. Markelz, O. Carm. Vice President of Student Affairs, Mr. John Haggerty reminded the students that they are “truly an elite group” within the Mount Carmel community. He reminded the students that they deserve to be proud of themselves and that they should know that the faculty and administration look at them with great respect. He later reminded the students that “If your goals are high, keep doing what you are doing, and keep working hard, the doors will open for you in the future.”
