Mount Carmel Football Coach Frank Lenti Named National Coach of the Week

Chicago – Legendary Mount Carmel head football coach Frank Lenti was named National Coach of the Week by PrepNation on September 20.

Lenti and his staff have the Caravan rapidly climbing PrepNation’s national rankings – up from No. 36 in the preseason rankings to No. 11 in this week’s poll. Mount Carmel is coming off a 31-0 victory over state-ranked Brother Rice on September 15, and has also knocked off powers Providence (30-8) and Joliet Catholic (13-6).

Since taking over the Caravan program, Lenti has amassed an overall record of 254-41 (.860 winning percentage), and has won nine IHSA state championships in 12 state-title game appearances. His teams have appeared in the state playoffs for the last 20 years, and sport a 72-11 mark.

“One point we always tell our players is that anytime you receive recognition, other people have given you that opportunity. This honor is a perfect example of that,” Lenti said. “The entire coaching staff and players, along with the support of the Carmelites, faculty and staff, has allowed us to be recognized.

“One thing that always seems obvious to me about Mount Carmel High School is that it’s always a “we” thing, and never a “me” thing. This honor sums up that approach.”
