The Mount Carmel Library is a resource to ensure our students are effective users of ideas and information during and after their four-year college prep education.

Study and Writing Guides

Use the following guides to assist with researching papers and properly citing sources. 

A+ Research and Writing Guide: This resource is a step-by-step guide to writing and researching a paper. Also included is a search to help you find information and in your library as well as additional links for great online resources. 

EasyBib: Automatically formats your bibliographic information into MLA style. Choose the type of source you need to format and this source will generate the citations for you. NOTE: you are responsible for the quality and accuracy of the end product. 

MLA Citation Examples: Provides formats, examples and clear explanations of how to site sources. 

Thesis Builder: Helps you draft a clear thesis statement for your persuasive essay. Will also help you create an outline for your paper.

Use the links below to locate books and databases at your local library. 

Public Libraries

Chicago Public Library (CPL): Choose A-Z Research Databases to access over 50 databases. Search the card catalog from home, request an inter-library loan. 

South Suburban Library Network: Search the online catalogs of the libraries in the South Suburbs. You can access their databases from the physical library only.

Indiana Libraries

Indiana Virtual Library (INSPIRE)INSPIRE is Indiana's Virtual Library. Access their reference databases for free through any computer located in the state of Indiana. 

Lake County Libraries offers access to the catalogs of these 7 libraries that have shared borrowing privileges: Cedar Lake, Dyer - Schererville, Griffith, Highland, Lowell, Munster and St. John.
