Placement Test December 2, 2017

The admissions process at Mount Carmel begins when a student takes our Placement Test. 

Eighth graders may only take the Placement Test at one Catholic School in the Archdiocese of Chicago; therefore all students who want to attend Mount Carmel High School should take the Placement Test at our school on December 2, 2017. Taking the test at Mount Carmel qualifies you for a number of scholarship opportunities. Click here to find out more about our scholarships. 

Top Ten Tips for Doing Your Best on the HSPT (High School Placement Test) at Mount Carmel

  1. Get a good night’s rest before the exam.
  2. Follow directions exactly as they are given.
  3. Mark your answer sheets carefully.
  4. Select only one answer to each question, and erase all unintended marks completely.
  5. Read each question carefully and completely.
  6. Answer every question.  There is no penalty for guessing.
  7. Pace yourself throughout the test.
  8. Answer easy questions first.
  9. If you finish a test early, reread the questions and double-check your answers.

About the Test

Mount Carmel administers the High School Placement Test (HSPT).  Check out the HSPT practice test materials on or visit local book stores to purchase study guides. Criteria used for decisions regarding acceptance and academic placement include results of the HSPT as well as 7th and 8th grade grammar school records. Calculators may not be used on the HSPT.

What to Bring

Students should arrive at Mount Carmel for the Placement Test prepared with the following:

  • Two number 2 pencils
  • $25 testing fee (cash or check made payable to Mount Carmel High School)

Admissions and Financial Aid Information Session

Parents of eighth graders who are taking the Test are invited to attend an information session with school administrators at 8:45 a.m. The session will cover admissions and Financial Aid information.  It will take place in the Media Center, located on the second floor of the Convocation Center.
