Diversity Dinner
La Caravana will be hosting a Diversity Dinner on May 2nd at 6pm. Join us and learn a little about other cultures, foods and engage in great thought provoking conversation. To RSVP, see Mr Mota in room 311.

ServSafe Certification
Next week, students will have an opportunity to receive training and ServSafe Certification which is necessary to work in the food service industry. A sign up sheet has been sent to every student's MCHS gmail. If interested in taking part in this training/certification (which will make you more employable), please complete the form in that email by this Friday, April 28th.

Blood Drive
The last blood drive of the year will be Monday May 8th.  You must be at least 16 years old to donate.  See Mrs. Chappetto to sign up or sign up in studium.

The Caravan Rugby team will take on Brother Rice this Friday, April 28, at 6pm. at Brother Rice.  This game will likely decide the Catholic League Champion.  In addition, it will be a fundraiser for Hope Children's Hospital, so we need as many fans as possible to come out to support the team and help make an impact on kids who need it most.  Make plans to be there!

Summer Institute for Languages of the Muslim World
The Summer Institute for Languages of the Muslim World (SILMW) provides a unique opportunity for high school students interested in learning Arabic. This is a 2-week intensive and immersive program held on the campus of the  University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. High school students enrolled in this program will earn 2 hours of college credit and gain foundational skills in the Arabic language. In addition to 4 hours of daily classroom instruction, students will take part in a variety of cultural activities intended to immerse them in the Arabic language. These include conversation tables, movie nights, cooking classes, game nights, field trips, and much more! Furthermore, we offer full and partial scholarships to applicants based on demonstrated academic merit or financial need.

Spring Splash

SPRING SPLASH! Is our one-day program at UChicago’s campus at 1212 E. 59th St. from 9:30-4:30pm Saturday, April 29th.
Splash is where students come to our campus to take courses taught and designed by university students.

This year we have amazing courses lined up such as: How to Succeed, Understanding Conflict, To Infinity and Beyond, Fear and the Brain, Game Theory, and many more. Our program is open to  all high school students. To top it all off we’re serving free Dunkin Donuts for breakfast and free Lou Malnati’s Pizza for lunch.  Our program is entirely FREE.

Fight Night
Admission tickets for Fight Night on Saturday, April 29th are available in the Security Office and the Athletic Department. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students/children from any school.  Checks made out to Mount Carmel are accepted.  Avoid the long lines, and get your tickets in advance. Doors open at 6PM. Ticket prices are the same at the door. Come and support your Mount Carmel brothers who have been training hard to make Fight Night an exciting event.

Paul Revere Lodge Scholarship
A 1-time award of $500.00 will be given to the winner of the scholarship to be applied to the fall semester of the 2017 school year. The topic for this year’s scholarship is,“Freemasonry is arguably the most well known and misunderstood fraternal organization ever. Why do you think there still stands misconceptions on what Freemasonry is even to this day?”  See Mr. Eisenbraun for the application.  The deadline is April 28th.

Summer Global Leadership Institute
The Summer Global Leadership Institute is a two-week program offering two unique seminar experiences: pick one of three subject tracks and participate in Valpo’s Global Leadership Workshop. The deadline has been extended to April 30, 2017! You will automatically be considered for scholarships that will cover a portion or the entire cost of the program! Click SGLI to Apply!

The Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest
The Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest is open to high school seniors, college undergraduates and graduate students. Top award is $20,000.   You must submit an essay of between 800 and 1600 words on a topic related to Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. Essay must be submitted online or postmarked by April 28, 2017, no later than 11:59 PM, Pacific standard time.  The three topic choices are listed on the sponsor's website and essays will be judged on style and content.  Apply at: https://www.aynrand.org/students/essay-contests#atlasshrugged-1

Balanced Man Scholarship
Sigma Phi Epsilon is offering 3 scholarships totaling $1,750 for incoming fulltime students at U of I Champaign/Urbana. It is being offered to students who have excelled in areas of scholarship, leadership, athletics, and community service. For more information or apply at: www.illinoissigeps.com/scholarships . Application must be completed by May 1st.  Applying to this scholarship in no way obligates you to join the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

The National Italian Invitational Golf Tournament for Charities
For Freshman, Sophomores, & Juniors:  The National Italian Invitational Golf Tournament for Charities is offering two $10,000 scholarships for those of Italian ancestry with a minimum 3.0 GPA to help with HIGH SCHOOL TUITION.  Applications can be found at:  http://www.niigolf.com/ or in the counseling office.  The deadline is May 15th.

Nile C. Kinnick Scholarship

The University of Iowa's Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity administers a scholarship awarding $15,000 for 1st-year male students who will be attending the University of Iowa in the fall. The Nile C. Kinnick Scholarship is given out in honor of late Iowa Alpha brother and Heisman trophy winner Nile Kinnick. Kinnick was a model character on and off the field who exemplifies the values Phi Kappa Psi. This scholarship is a great opportunity for these young men to showcase their high school achievements, and become more acclimated to the University these students will be joining in the fall.

Guided Pathway Support (GPS) Program
The Ron Brown Program's Guided Pathway Support (GPS) Program is a free college access initiative that empowers junior and senior African-American high school students as they navigate the college admissions process.  For more information and to apply visit:  https://ronbrowngps.fluidreview.com/ , the deadline is May 31st.

Nurture for Nature Scholarship
The Nurture for Nature Scholarship was created as a mission to share inspiring stories about animals and pets in particular. Our main goal is to make this world a better place by increasing people’s awareness for protecting animals.The scholarship amount is $1200.  High school students are welcome to apply.  The application deadline is 6/30/17. Wells Fargo CollegeSTEPS
The Wells Fargo CollegeSTEPS program is a sweepstakes for the chance to win $5,000. It’s free to enter. Eligible students must be 14 years of age or older on the date they register for the CollegeSTEPS program to be entered in the sweepstakes. The sweepstakes runs from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017. Two drawings will be conducted to award a total of $60,000. Service Opportunities 

Woodlawn Tutoring Center
Woodlawn Tutoring Center is looking for high school tutors to help students with homework and developmental needs. Tutors are needed for Monday and Thursday afternoons from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. Contact Carolyn at 773-595-4651 for further information or to volunteer.

Summer Service Trips
Two Summer Service Trips are scheduled for June. The first trip is to Cedar Rapids, IA to work with Habitat for Humanity from Tuesday, June 6th through Saturday, June 10th. Cost is $100. The second trip is to Wayne Country, WV from Sunday, June 11th through Saturday, June 17th. Cost is $150. All students must be 16 at the time of the trip to participate. Applications are available from the main office or from Mr. Welch in room 002.
