The M.C. Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to serving the financial needs of students of Mount Carmel High School, presents SALUTE TO THE CHAMPIONS, honoring coaches, players, captains, faculty, and select individuals who have made invaluable contributions to Mount Carmel. The event will take place in the Turf Club at Hawthorne Racecourse, 3501 S. Laramie Ave., Stickney/Cicero, IL. 60804, on Saturday, December 5, 2015
Mount Carmel High School freshmen students participated a weeklong service-learning program, IMPACT, aimed at heightening the Catholic and Carmelite identity and mission and expanding service learning opportunities for students to express their faith in action. Students toured the restoration project at nearby Wooded Island in Jackson Park and participated in the cleaning and restoration of various sites across Chicago and Northwest Indiana. On Sunday, October 18, 2015, Pope Francis presided at Mass in St. Peter's Square which included the Rite of Canonization. Earlier this year, on June 27, 2015, at the Ordinary Consistory in the Vatican, the Pope approved the canonization of Louis Martin and his wife Zelie. It was decided that the ceremony would take place during the Synod on the Family, and they would be canonized alongside two others: Fr. Vincenzo Grossi, the Italian founder of the Institute of the Daughters of the Oratory, and Spanish Sister Maria of the Immaculate Conception, Superior General of the Sisters of the Company of the Cross.
Eleven of Mount Carmel High School’s most gifted 11th graders continued their pursuit of academic excellence by visiting Northwestern University last Friday. The visit, which allowed students the opportunity to meet with enrollment representatives and current students, was the second in an elite college and university visit schedule for the Ehrenstrom Scholars, an enrichment fraternity named in memory of teacher, coach, and alumnus Curt Ehrenstrom ‘79.
