Department Philosophy

The Social Studies Department at Mount Carmel challenges all students with learning experiences to help them succeed in all of their future endeavors. The curriculum is organized on an interdisciplinary basis to ensure a deeper understanding of complex issues.
It is designed to get the students actively involved in the learning process and to have them assume responsibility for their learning. Instruction focuses on higher-order critical thinking skills, problem solving, creative thought, and application skills. Our Instructional materials and teaching strategies recognize and respect student diversity. The courses in the Social Studies Department are vitally important for the future success at the university level.


Students are required to take 10 trimesters (or 3.33 credits) including World History and US History to graduate
