Carmel Life Spring 2017

Letter from the President

The Campaign for Mount Carmel success continues as the students and faculty moved into the renovated third floor of the Main Building. The entire floor has been transformed into 21st-century classrooms with technology upgrades and flexible learning environments. This summer, we will turn our focus to the second floor of the Main Building and with your continued support, we will continue to build for the future.

The success of our students is evident in and out of the classroom. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors participated in IMPACT weeks, during which each student experiences a service learning workshop in the community and reflects upon how it relates to him as an individual. Student council worked with the leadership team and successfully amended the handbook regarding the dress code - providing more hair length to the students. Speech, wrestling, soccer, chess and our one man diving team have represented Mount Carmel at the state level this year. Each of these events challenges our students to represent Mount Carmel to the best of their abilities.

Recently, the Mount Carmel Alumni Association acknowledged several people whose commitment to Mount Carmel have earned them recognition. You can read about those honorees in this online edition of Carmel Life.

I am proud of our success stories. Even though the classrooms of 6410 S. Dante may have changed a little since many of you walked the halls, you will be happy to know that the tradition of educating young men of character in the Catholic, Carmelite traditions continues today. If you are ever in the neighborhood, stop by and see first-hand our successes and some of the changes we have made for the 21st-century men of Carmel.

May Our Lady of Mount Carmel continue to guide us.

In Carmel,

Ned Hughes ‘70
