Whether they loved the idea of a scapular, a cup of coffee, a magnet, a call from the President, a discount at the Caravan Spirit Store, or simply loved the thought of participating in solidarity on November 29th, more than 140 folks invested in our young men on #BrownTuesday – Mount Carmel’s unique branding of the global movement of #GivingTuesday. Since 2013, the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday has been widely recognized as the time to step back from the tendency and temptation of the season to “buy, buy, buy” and encourages each of us to dig deep and share generously with the causes that claim space close to our hearts.
We were certainly feeling the love on Dante that day as our community stood shoulder-to-shoulder to move us beyond our goal of $20,000.00 – netting close to $22,000.00 for the effort. An aggressive social media campaign alerted potential donors to the scapulars and other various incentives offered throughout the day; however, the biggest push of all came between the hours of 6 and 10 pm as contributions accumulated in enthusiastic response to the generous matching gift offered by John Dombrowski ’78. The combination of loyal supporters and new donors throughout the day yielded a bottom line that the Caravan Family can be proud of.
#BrownTuesday supports the efforts of the Men of Carmel Fund – which directly impacts 100% of our students. Whether you are moved to direct your resources to annual giving because of our exceptional academics, athletics, clubs, or committed to sustaining affordable education for our students, your contribution to the Men of Carmel Fund is a direct and immediate investment in all that is unique to being a student at 6410 South Dante.
As we look toward #BrownTuesday 2017, we envision an event of even greater proportion – with the ultimate goal of providing substantial support to the young men of Carmel that inform our mission each and every day so these men will aspire to do the same well beyond their years here on Dante.
