The 2017 Caravan Gala was another great success. Held on February 18, 2017, at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, the event featured auctions, games, dinner, and dancing. Highlighting the night was the presentation of the Saint Albert Award to Tom ’64 and Sheila Gibbs. The Saint Albert Award is presented with the highest honor to individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the Mount Carmel community and beyond. Tom’s official service to the Mount Carmel Educational Foundation began with an invitation from Fr. Bob Carroll to join the Foundation Board in the 1980’s. Since then, Tom has served on that board as well as the Mount Carmel High School Board of Directors, of which he is currently Chairman. Few volunteers have had the impact on the school that Tom has during his tenure.

New at the Gala this year was a performance by artist Elliott From of Artbeat Live Studios. From dazzled the crowd with his high energy painting and musical accompaniment that resulted in a beautiful Chicago Blackhawks Indian head painting that went home to the high bidder. In addition, a new game was played this year, as the “Dollar Dash” replaced the “Heads or Tails” game of years past. Both additions brought new fun to the event and helped raise even more support for our students. After the live auction, the fund-a-cause was held and featured a video highlighting the dedication and hard work that our students put in daily to be successful. After the video, $56,000 was donated by those in attendance to benefit current students. That money will be put to use immediately to help those who need it most.

Overall, the event contributed more than $210,000 to the Mount Carmel Educational Foundation. The Foundation provides a perpetual source of funding for the school and currently has a balance of more than $9 million. Growing the Foundation is critical to the future viability of the school and provides students with support to ensure that a Mount Carmel education remains affordable.

Please make plans to join us for the 2018 Caravan Gala, which will be held on March 10, 2018, at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile.
