2018 Caravan Gala Sets New Record, Honors Walsh

On March 10, 2018, the Caravan Gala returned to the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile and brought together an enthusiastic crowd of alumni, parents, and friends that helped set fundraising records for the event. This was the seventh installment of the Gala since it was rebranded from the Big Event, and the night ended with more than $315,000 raised for the Mount Carmel Educational Foundation – the largest total to date!

The evening was a fun night featuring games, dinner, auctions, live music and dancing all while celebrating being a part of the Mount Carmel community and raising important funds to support current and future Mount Carmel students. One of the highlights each year is the Fund-A-Cause portion of the evening, which features a video about current Mount Carmel students and the impact the event and the Foundation have on them. This year’s featured students were Blake Lopez, Abdel Raoul, and Cesar Cosio, and the video showcased how each of them has faced different circumstances, but all have thrived at Mount Carmel because of the support from the Mount Carmel community. The Fund-A-Cause raised a record amount of more than $77,000 because of their stories!

The pinnacle of the night occurred when Matthew and Joyce Walsh were honored with the 2018 Saint Albert Award. The award is given each year to someone who has made a great impact on Mount Carmel High School and beyond. Though Matt is not an alumnus, few have had as big of a role in the transformation of the Mount Carmel campus over the past 15 years. Walsh Construction has been a great partner in building the Convocation Center and McCarthy Wing, as well as renovating the third and second floors inside the main school building. Their work is ongoing to finish the original main building and has helped transform our campus into one fit for 21st-century learners.

The Mount Carmel Educational Foundation currently has a balance of more than $10.3 million and contributes each year to bridge the gap between the actual cost to educate a Mount Carmel student and the tuition that is charged. This perpetual source of funding is critical for the future viability of the school.

Please make plans to join us for the 2019 Caravan Gala, which will be held on March 9, 2019, at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile.
