SCHOLARSHIP SPOTLIGHT

Carmel Life spotlights three scholarships critical to helping a Mount Carmel education remain affordable for our young men: The Thomas Grojean '56 Scholarship, MC President's Scholarship, Promise Scholarship. Click here to read more…

THE THOMAS GROJEAN ’56 SCHOLARSHIP

Tom Grojean wasn’t one to let the grass grow under his feet as a young man of Carmel. As a member of the wrestling and bowling teams, Mission Club, intramurals, and Student Council Tom knew what it meant to be a Man of Carmel in the 1950’s. As a life-long professional, family-man, and philanthropist, Thomas Grojean continues to exemplify what it means to embody the values of a Carmel man today – truly leading by example with his establishment of a scholarship fund along with a challenge to his 1956 classmates to invest in our young men just as he has committed to doing.

As benefactors of the Thomas Grojean ’56 Scholarship Fund, Tom and wife Terri’s goal is simple: That opportunity to succeed becomes reality for those who would not be able to attend Mount Carmel without significant assistance. The Grojeans have pledged $200,000.00 over the next four school years to ensure that young men of faith, character, and academic promise can attend the institution that Tom has supported with unwavering loyalty since his graduation. Five families from schools throughout the area we serve will benefit from his generosity for the 2017-2018 school year. Awards are renewable based on academic performance and demonstrated commitment of the recipient to embrace the Caravan values to cares for others, respect all, act with integrity, work hard, and lead by example.

Just like Tom.

MC PRESIDENT’S SCHOLARSHIP

The Class of 2021 will also be the inaugural class for the Mount Carmel President’s Scholarship. Awards ranging from $5,000 - $8,000 were conferred to three incoming freshmen after a review of all those who applied and obtained recommendations from their current principal or church leader. These students bear the responsibility of upholding excellence in the areas of academics, citizenship, and contributions to the Mount Carmel community and beyond.

The MC President’s Scholarship was founded with an initial donation of $11,500 and the request of an anonymous benefactor who is passionate about Mount Carmel and the continued growth of our mission. The future of the scholarship is dependent upon other like-minded alumni and friends. Is this you?

Consider a gift that is an investment in the school you are passionate about…the school that attracts young men from more than 120 zip codes and countless histories.

PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP UPDATE

The spotlight shone on the Promise Scholarship last spring – a time when the committee and the fund it represents was poised for full-throttle movement. And move they did!

This spring, three members of the Class of 2017 were awarded $3,500.00 each as Promise Scholars: Ryan Hickey, Ryan Jones, and Kamaal Power were nominated, interviewed, and selected as 2017 Promise Recipients. As Promise Scholars, they each – along with their parents – vowed to support Mount Carmel in the years ahead, whether by time, gift, or treasure.
Founded with the intention of seeking out young men such as this year’s crew, the impetus behind the scholarship is that our young men move away from Dante Avenue with full knowledge that this school has faith in them, and has entrusted them with the future of all that is Brown and White.

Mr. Hickey, Mr. Jones, and Mr. Power have now promised to pay that kind generosity forward in the years (and decades!) to come.
