Program Philosophy

The goal of the MCHS STEM Scholar program is to significantly increase the volume of students completing a rigorous college preparatory program that aligns with the college readiness standards in place. STEM programs are designed to meet the upcoming and current needs of college bound students and those who enter the workforce.
As a result, we are creating a STEM Cohort for students with an emphasis on using and developing collaboration, ingenuity and determination to reach a point where they can function in a college setting using the skills developed here at Mount Carmel.

STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Individual success in one subject does not preclude mastery in the collusion of all of them. Therefore, as we move to this creation we will be modifying curriculum and choices based on what is most beneficial or our students.

Entry into the program is outlined further on and requirements of subject and GPA will be regulated as to produce those students who are truly ready to complete this program. Additional work outside of curricular subject matter is expected and participation in STEM related function will be mandatory.

Requirements:
  • Maintain a 3.0 overall GPA.
  • Maintain grades of B- or better in all science, math and technology classes.
  • Be an active member of the Science Olympiad, Math Club, Computer Club, or Robotics Club.
  • Be a working member on the hydrogen cell race team.
  • Complete additional work/projects that are assigned in STEM related classes (Projects will be graded as pass/fail.)
  • Enroll in a STEM related course during Junior or Senior year for an extra (5th) credit in Science, Math or an additional technology class
