Job Description
Faculty at Mount Carmel High School are blessed to teach some of the most hardworking, respectful, and delightful young men from Chicago, the surrounding suburbs, and Northwest Indiana.  Each young man comes from a dedicated, supportive and involved family.  Faculty at Mount Carmel must contribute to a collaborative environment that is powered by dedicated professionals. Our teachers are responsible for providing an educational environment where young men have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for growth that opens up the potential to become faithful Men of Carmel, through highly effective teaching practices that incorporate technology into the curriculum.  Our faculty are responsible for promoting student achievement and academic success at every turn.  Faithful, caring, and dedicated faculty are desired to continue to uphold our mission of teaching our Catholic Carmelite values and principles, while pushing our students to become service-driven leaders.
 
Responsibilities
This person will be responsible to actively participate in the McDermott-Doyle resource program. This includes servicing requirements for students with IEPs, 504s, etc, as well as leading sections of Resource classes to better support our students. Active participation in department meetings, and other engagements are required. Such events are Open House, Personal Tour Nights, etc. This person will also be responsible for proctoring final exams and other assessments that are offered to McDermott-Doyle students, full-time and adjunct, as needed.
 
Job Requirements
Provide a positive environment that encourages students to be engaged in the learning process, including active and responsible use of technology.  Implements instructional techniques that contribute to an atmosphere where our young men are engaged in meaningful learning experiences. Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs. Uses and analyzes available data to drive instructional practices. Maintains effective, efficient, and timely grading procedures. Establishes and maintains cooperative and professional working relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, including the Principal, President, Counseling, Campus Ministry, etc. Strong candidates will also be able to fit in with two ongoing initiatives at Mount Carmel: 1:1 learning and cross-curricular instruction.
 
Job Qualifications
Candidates must possess the following:
  • Degree in secondary education (or will obtain by July 1, 2024)
  • Valid teaching license (or will obtain by July 1, 2024)
Illinois certification preferred, but not required.
Master’s Degree in Education preferred, but not required.
  • LBS1 Certification (or will obtain by July 1, 2024)
  • Virtus Training Certification (or completed within first 90 days of employment at Mount Carmel).
