Endowing a Legacy of Leadership — Forever
Jim Barda, Mount Carmel Class of 1963, passed away tragically at Mount Carmel football camp the summer before his junior year. His spirit of leadership, faith, and service has since helped shape nearly two hundred young men who have carried his name as Barda Scholars.
Each Barda Scholar receives a $2,000 annual scholarship, renewable for all four years, in exchange for a promise to lead in the classroom, in character, in community, in school spirit, and in service.
Mount Carmel classmate Don Barry '63, who was Jim's dear friend, along with his classmates established the Barda Leadership Award to continue Jim's legacy while providing financial support to young men of Carmel identified as leaders in their classes. Don and Peggy Barry have now pledged $1,000,000 to endow the scholarship permanently, ensuring Barda Leaders are selected at Mount Carmel every year to come.
A Transformative Gift — And an Invitation
As a past recipient who knows this award best, we invite you to join us. In order to fully endow the scholarship, securing Jim Barda's legacy for generations of Mount Carmel men, we need to raise an additional $1.2 million on top of the Barrys' founding pledge.
Total James Barda '63 Scholarship Goal: $2,200,000
Don '63 and Peggy Barry Pledge: $1,000,000
Additional funds needed to endow all Barda Leaders at Mount Carmel over a four year period: $1,200,000
Why Grow the Barda Scholarship?
- A Permanent Legacy — Endowing the Barda Scholarship means it becomes a permanent fixture at Mount Carmel, supporting young men for generations to come.
- More Scholars, Every Year — Every additional gift increases the number of freshmen who can be selected as Barda Scholars, and strengthens the award for those already earning it.
- Leading Once Again — Gifts from past Barda Scholars carry special meaning — an opportunity to pay forward the mission Jim Barda inspired in them.
YOUR LEADERSHIP CONTINUES THE LEGACY OF JIM BARDA '63
