Background

Mount Carmel High School (MCHS), founded in 1900 under the leadership of the Carmelites, is Chicago’s premier college preparatory school for young men. It is located just south of the Museum of Science and Industry, the University of Chicago, and future Obama Presidential Center. Mount Carmel’s diverse student body represents students from over 220 grade schools and 100 different zip codes across Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana; it is considered one of the best Catholic high schools in Illinois.

    Teaching full time at Mount Carmel consists of 5 classes and all teachers are strongly encouraged to moderate/co-moderate a club or activity.
  • Job Qualifications


    Teaching Candidates must possess the following:
    • Degree in secondary education (or will obtain by July 1, 2026)
    • Valid teaching license (or will obtain by July 1, 2026)
    Illinois certification preferred but not required.
    • Virtus Training Certification (or completed within the first 90 days of employment at Mount Carmel).
    • Submit to a Illinois State Background Check with fingerprinting
    Experience teaching Advanced Placement (AP) courses preferred but not required.

    Provide a positive environment that encourages students to be engaged in the learning process, including active and responsible use of technology.  Implements instructional techniques that contribute to an atmosphere where our young men are engaged in meaningful learning experiences. Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs. Uses and analyzes available data to drive instructional practices. Maintains effective, efficient, and timely grading procedures. Establishes and maintains cooperative and professional working relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, including the Principal, Department Chair, Campus Ministry, etc. Strong candidates will also be able to fit in with two ongoing initiatives at Mount Carmel: 1:1 learning and cross-curricular instruction.

  • Accounting and Spirit Store Coordinator

    Full Time, 12 months, On-Site
    Mount Carmel High School is an all-boys Catholic college preparatory school committed to forming young men who live with zeal for God, zeal for life, and zeal for learning. Through academics, activities, athletics, and spiritual and moral development, Mount Carmel seeks to develop reflective, well-rounded young men prepared for life beyond high school.

    The Accounting and Spirit Store Coordinator supports the financial operations of Mount Carmel High School and manages the day-to-day operations of the Mount Carmel Spirit Store. Primary responsibilities include full-cycle accounts payable, vendor management, daily deposits, staff credit card accounting, monthly close and audit support, and Spirit Store purchasing, sales, inventory, and online order fulfillment.

    Competencies:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
    • Prior experience in accounts payable, bookkeeping, accounting, or a related financial role; retail or inventory management experience is a plus.
    • Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience with Blackbaud or similar accounting systems preferred.
    • Strong attention to detail, organization, time management, and ability to manage multiple priorities and recurring deadlines.

  • Bus Driver - Part Time

    Position Summary
    The Bus Driver has the primary responsibility for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the students, staff and volunteers during bus transportation. A working/charged phone with available voicemails space is required. Attendance is essential.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Pick up and drop off at home or residential bus stop and school
    • Transport to field trip destination
    • Perform bus safety inspection daily
    • Report on all safety concerns to Director of Transportation
    • Ensure all bus passengers are safely seated and strapped in
    • Observe speed limits and obey road signs
    • Ensure children get on and off the bus safely
    • Perform simple vehicle maintenance, such as filling gas tank, cleaning exterior and interior, taking vehicle for oil changes or state inspections, etc.)
    • Ensure medical emergency procedures are followed.
    • Driver is responsible for taking student attendance.
