Private Vans and Buses

Mount Carmel’s private bus system transports students from the northern, southern, eastern, and western areas of the city and suburbs. Additonally, there is a Northwest Indiana route. The buses offer reasonable rates, flexible routes, and a reliable mode of transportation for hundreds of Mount Carmel students. Since most Mount Carmel students participate in one or more athletic and/or extracurricular activity, activity buses are made available departing Mount Carmel at 6:00 p.m. The activity buses are offered in addition to the regularly scheduled buses which leave campus at 3:00 each day.

Bus routes are determined each summer based on the location of our student population. If you have any questions regarding a bus route, please contact the Transportation Director, Mr. Craig Ferguson at cferguson@mchs.org.

Students may take CTA trains and buses to Mount Carmel which are located near 64th street and Stony Island Avenue stops.

Mount Carmel’s proximity to downtown Chicago allows students and families to take advantage of the Metra Railroad system available in Chicago and the surrounding suburban areas.

63rd Street Station
The Metra Electric and South Shore Railroad lines conveniently stop at 63rd street. The 63rd street station is located directly across from Mount Carmel High School.

Union Station and Ogilvie Transportation Center
A number of other Metra routes bring students from all over the Chicago land area to Union station or Ogilvie Transportation Center. Mount Carmel operates private shuttle bus service from these stations, located in downtown Chicago to campus. A reverse commute in the morning and afternoon allows for a quick ten-minute ride to and from the Loop.

South Shore Railroad
