STEPS TO RESERVE A TAX CREDIT FOR THE ILLINOIS TAX CREDIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

REQUEST A LETTER ID
  1. Go to mytax.illinois.gov
  2. Go to the “Individuals” section.
  3. Click on “Request a Letter ID”.
  4. Enter your Social Security Number and one of the four secondary ID options.
  5. Click “Submit” on the bottom right of the screen.
  6. Enter your email address. Enter again to confirm.
  7. Click “OK”.
RESERVE YOUR CREDIT
  1. Log in to your My Tax Illinois account.
  2. Click on “View More Account Options”.
  3. Click on “Contribute to Invest in Kids”.
  4. Complete Acknowledgement.
  5. Designate the region for Mount Carmel (Region 1).
  6. Designate the Scholarship Granting Organization (e.g., Big Shoulders or Empower Illinois).
  7. Enter the full amount of the donation you intend to make. (You will receive 75% of this amount as a credit on your Illinois income tax.)
  8. Click submit and enter your password.
  9. Click “OK”.
  10. This will return you to Account Options.
  11. Click on “View Account Letters”.
  12. Open “Invest in Kids Contribution Appl” and download the CAC.
  13. You have 60 days to send your contribution and your CAC to either Big Shoulders or Empower Illinois.

This program is a powerful tool for both reducing your state tax liability and giving generously to Mount Carmel with the same dollars.  The state of Illinois offers a 75% tax credit for donations to Mount Carmel High School!
