CARAVAN GOALIE ANTHONY KUBIK RECEIVES 2018 ALL-STATE RECOGNITION AS SCHOOL’S FIRST LACROSSE HONOREE

Mount Carmel junior Anthony Kubik of Morgan Park, Chicago was selected as a 2018 All-State player from the Illinois High School Lacrosse Association. During the 2018 season, the Caravan netminder finished with 196 saves and a .678 save percentage while averaging 6.6 goals allowed per game.
“It’s an incredible honor to be named to this team and honestly, I couldn’t be happier to know that coaches across the state recognized me to this level,” said Kubik with a smile from ear-to-ear. “I always do my best to put it all out there during games, practices, and workouts so it means a lot to me and shows what I can be capable of.”

In addition to the rising senior’s personal achievement, this also marks the school’s first lacrosse player to receive this honor. When asked about it, Kubik was surprised but also stated that his teammates are a huge part of his success.

“We just play really well together if you ask me. When you have fun with what you do, you’re going to accomplish great things,” said Kubik.
Caravan varsity lacrosse coach Matt McGuire of Lagrange Park, IL commended Kubik’s leadership on the defensive side during games while also being a positive role model to younger players in the program.

“He’s the hardest working kid on the team and this award just shows how your hard work can pay off,” said McGuire, who has been the head coach at Mount Carmel for 2 years. “Anthony has an outstanding lacrosse IQ and not only does that elevate his playing level. It also makes the guys around him significantly better and our program couldn’t be happier to see that type of progress.”

Heading into his senior season, McGuire is more than confident that Kubik will accept the challenge of being a senior leader on next year’s team. As excited as ever, Kubik is looking forward to nothing more than getting back out on the field next spring.
